Kitulgala is a small town in Sabaragamuwa Province, situated along the Kelani River. It is best known as the filming location of the 1957 Academy Award-winning film Bridge on the River Kwai. Today it is Sri Lanka’s premier adventure destination, offering white-water rafting on the Kelani River, canyoning, abseiling, and rainforest trekking. The surrounding rainforest is rich with endemic bird species and is a favourite with birdwatchers.
