Dambulla is a city in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. The Dambulla cave temple (Golden Temple) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The main attractions are spread over a large white painted rock. Inside the caves, which have been used as sanctuaries since the 1st century BCE, there are 153 Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings, and 4 statues of gods and goddesses. Nearby Minneriya National Park hosts the famous Elephant Gathering.
