Nuwara Eliya (pronounced Noo-rel-ya) is a city in the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka. It is the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea country, surrounded by rolling hills of tea plantations. At 1,868 metres above sea level, it has a cool, temperate climate. Gregory Lake is a popular spot for paddle boating. Horton Plains National Park, the highest plateau in Sri Lanka, features the dramatic World’s End precipice — a sheer drop of 880 metres.
