Overview
Devon Falls — one of Sri Lanka’s most spectacular single-drop waterfalls at approximately 97 metres — is accessible from the Kitulgala region via the highland roads connecting the Sabaragamuwa Province with the Central Province tea country. The standard viewpoint for Devon Falls is from the Hatton–Nuwara Eliya highway, but the approach from the Kitulgala side through the highland tea estates provides an entirely different perspective on the falls and the surrounding landscape. This regional approach passes through the atmospheric mid-elevation tea country between the Sabaragamuwa rainforest and the Central Highland tea plateau, revealing how dramatically the landscape changes in altitude and ecological character over a short horizontal distance. The Devon and St. Clair’s falls pair — visible together from some positions — are among the most dramatic highland waterfall compositions in the country.
