Overview
Bambarakanda Falls — Sri Lanka’s tallest waterfall at 241 metres — is most commonly accessed from the Haputale side, but the Belihuloya region provides an alternative access perspective from the southwestern approach that reveals the falls and the surrounding highland landscape from a different angle. The Belihuloya approach through the Kalupahana valley passes through a beautiful highland agricultural landscape before the escarpment base viewpoint reveals the full 241-metre cascade from below and to the side. This approach allows visitors staying at Belihuloya’s eco-lodges to include the falls as a natural day excursion without the full drive to Haputale, and the combined Belihuloya River and Bambarakanda day creates one of the finest nature days in the southern highland edge zone.
