Overview
Aberdeen Falls is a spectacular 98-metre single-drop waterfall located in the highlands above Kitulgala, accessible via a demanding forest hike from the Kitulgala area. The falls drop from the edge of a highland plateau into a deep gorge below, and the sight of the full 98-metre cascade from the base — surrounded by the pristine highland forest — is one of the most dramatic natural spectacles accessible from the Kitulgala adventure zone. The approach from the Kitulgala side involves a challenging uphill forest hike that passes through several vegetation zones and rewards persistent hikers with views that combine the river gorge below with the highland forest above. Aberdeen Falls is most impressive in the wet season when the full volume of the highland rainfall turns the cascade into a thunderous column of white water.
