Overview

The train journey between Bandarawela and Ella is one of the finest short rail experiences in Sri Lanka — a 35-minute section of the famous Colombo–Badulla hill country line that passes through a sequence of extraordinary highland landscapes: deep gorges, viaducts, tunnels, tea estate plateaus, and the dramatic approach to Ella through the Nine Arches Bridge viaduct and the Demodara Loop spiral.
