Bomburu Ella Waterfall

Overview

Bomburu Ella is a beautiful twin-stream waterfall located in the hill country east of Nuwara Eliya, dropping through a narrow rocky gorge in the montane forest and forming one of the more dramatic cascades in the Central Province highlands. The falls are characterised by two parallel streams of water that merge on the rock face before descending as a single curtain — a visual effect that makes Bomburu Ella particularly photogenic. The approach involves a short walk through tea estate and forest, and the combination of the waterfall sound and the cool highland air creates a deeply refreshing experience. Bomburu Ella is less visited than Ramboda or Devon Falls, giving it an uncrowded and intimate quality that the more accessible falls have largely lost. The rocky pool at the base is suitable for wading and light swimming in dry season when water levels are manageable.
