Overview

Diyatha Uyana is a beautifully landscaped waterfront park located along the Diyawanna Lake in Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, just a few kilometres east of central Colombo. Developed as part of the urban beautification of Sri Lanka’s parliamentary precinct, the park offers a serene escape from the city noise with well-maintained pathways, decorative bridges, manicured gardens, and a series of floating platforms and pavilions over the lake. The park is particularly popular in the late afternoons and evenings when families come for leisurely walks, children’s activities, and to enjoy the sunset over the water. A weekend farmers’ market and craft fair operates regularly in the park, making it a popular destination for both residents and tourists. The adjacent Sri Lanka Parliament complex, designed by Geoffrey Bawa and set on an island in Diyawanna Lake, is visible from the park and makes for a dramatic backdrop to evening photography.
