Overview
Elephant Rock is a large natural granite outcrop north of Arugam Bay whose silhouette and rocky profile bears a resemblance to an elephant form, providing both a natural landmark and an elevated viewpoint above the northern Arugam Bay coastal landscape. The rock is a local landmark visible from the beach and the northern road, and climbing to its summit provides one of the finest bird’s-eye perspectives over the bay and the surrounding coastal scenery. The rock and its surroundings are also good wildlife habitat — small mammals, reptiles, and birds use the granite outcrop, and the views from the top encompass both the Indian Ocean and the inland dry zone landscape.
