Overview
The southern entry routes to Horton Plains National Park via the Belihuloya and Ohiya approaches provide an alternative access to the famous World’s End plateau from the Sabaragamuwa and Uva side — routes that pass through the remarkable ecological transition from the forested Sabaragamuwa highlands to the open montane grassland plateau at 2,000–2,300 metres. The southern approach gives a different experience from the standard Nuwara Eliya main gate circuit — reaching the plateau via the Ohiya forest with its extraordinary cloud forest, emerging onto the open grassland from below rather than from the established tourist circuit. The southern routes are for self-sufficient trekkers with Forest Department permits and a good guide.
