Jaffna is the capital city of the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. It is on a peninsula, separated from mainland India by the Palk Strait. Jaffna has a distinctive Tamil culture and heritage. The Nallur Kandaswamy Temple is one of the most important Hindu temples in Sri Lanka, drawing thousands of devotees. Jaffna is also known for its unique cuisine, particularly its seafood dishes.
