Kuda Ravana Ella

Overview

Kuda Ravana Ella (“Small Ravana Falls”) is the less famous but equally beautiful smaller sibling of Ravana Falls, located in the hills above the main highway in the Ella area and requiring a short uphill walk through forest to reach. The waterfall is narrower and more compact than Ravana Falls but drops into a remarkably clear natural pool that is excellent for swimming, and the forest setting gives it a completely different atmosphere — private, quiet, and genuinely refreshing. The word “kuda” (small) is apt — this is a modest cascade by Sri Lankan standards — but the pool quality, the forest enclosure, and the almost complete absence of other visitors make it a superior swimming experience to the famous but crowded main falls. It is the kind of hidden spot that rewards travellers who seek out the lesser-known alternatives.
