Rajanawa Waterfall

Overview

Rajanawa Waterfall is a lesser-known cascade in the Sabaragamuwa highlands, set in dense forest above the agricultural fringe of the Ratnapura area. The falls are notable for the depth and drama of their gorge setting — the water drops into a narrow rock cleft surrounded by tall trees whose canopy filters the light into shifting green and gold columns. Rajanawa is one of those genuinely hidden falls that rewards persistence — the approach is rough and the trail unmarked, but the reward is a waterfall of considerable natural power in a setting of complete wildness. The pool below the falls is deep and clear, and the cool water is deeply refreshing after the humid forest approach.
