Overview
Hurulu Eco Park is a small protected area connected to the Minneriya–Kaudulla elephant corridor, encompassing the Hurulu forest reserve near Habarana and providing additional elephant habitat in the dry zone cultural landscape of the North Central Province. The park is positioned between Minneriya and Wilpattu in the elephant movement corridor that allows the Rajarata elephant population to range across a vast area seasonally. Hurulu receives very few visitors and its smaller size makes it an intimate, personalised safari experience. The dry zone forest here is typical of the ecological mosaic that the Rajarata elephants depend on — open glades, water holes, and dense scrub alternating across the landscape. Bird diversity is good, and the chance of spotting the endemic purple-faced langur monkey is higher here than in the more open tank parks.
