Overview
Idalgashinna Railway Station is a small, almost impossibly charming colonial-era station on the Colombo–Badulla hill country railway, perched in the cloud forest between Haputale and Ohiya at approximately 1,600 metres above sea level. The station is one of the most atmospheric small stations on the entire railway line — its simple stone buildings, flower-filled platform gardens, and the surrounding mist-touched forest creating a scene of such perfection that it has become something of a pilgrimage site for railway photography enthusiasts. The station serves a tiny community of highland villagers and the occasional trekker heading into the Ohiya forest, and the arrival of the twice-daily train through the forest cutting is one of the finest small-scale railway moments available in Sri Lanka.
