Overview
Ramboda Falls is one of the most accessible and visually striking waterfalls in the Central Province, located alongside the main A5 Kandy–Nuwara Eliya highway at Ramboda Pass, making it a standard — and deserving — stop for virtually every visitor making the journey between the two cities. The falls cascade down the steep escarpment of Ramboda Gorge in two main stages, with a combined drop of approximately 109 metres, ranked among the tallest in Sri Lanka. The volume and drama of the falls are impressive year-round, reaching their peak flow during the northeast monsoon (October–January) when the streams feeding the escarpment are at their fullest. A small viewing platform has been developed at the roadside, and a short trail descends to the base of the lower cascade. The surrounding landscape of the Ramboda Pass — deep gorge, misty hills, and the winding road climbing to Nuwara Eliya — is one of the most atmospheric stretches of Highland highway in the country.
