Overview
Mini World’s End at Riverston is the colloquial name for a dramatic cliff escarpment near the Riverston Peak that offers one of the most vertiginous and visually striking viewpoints accessible from the Matale side of the Central Highlands. Unlike the famous World’s End at Horton Plains (which drops 870 metres), the Riverston escarpment drops sharply into the Dumbara Valley below, revealing a perspective of exceptional depth and geographical drama that earns the “Mini World’s End” comparison despite its more modest scale. The cliff edge offers a stunning view northward across the bowl of the Dumbara Valley — an ancient eroded basin that is one of the most geographically distinctive landscapes in Sri Lanka — with the Knuckles Range mountains forming the eastern wall and the northern plains visible in the far distance. In the early morning, mist fills the valley and the surrounding ridges emerge above the cloud in a sequence of silhouettes that makes the viewpoint genuinely extraordinary.
