Overview
Udawela Falls is a beautiful hidden waterfall tucked within the forested hills of the Kandy District, one of several cascades that drain the upper slopes of the Hanthana and Heerassagala hill systems. The falls are characterised by a single clean drop into a clear rocky pool below, surrounded by dense tropical vegetation that frames the water in vivid green. The approach involves a short trek through forest and grassland that is itself rewarding for the views and wildlife it reveals. Udawela is far less known than the major waterfalls of the Central Province and receives very few visitors — which means arriving at the falls feels like a genuine personal discovery. The sound of the water, the coolness of the spray, and the complete isolation from any town create an experience of natural refreshment that is increasingly rare in the more accessible parts of Sri Lanka.
