Overview

Wangedigala is a prominent mountain peak in the Sabaragamuwa highlands near Belihuloya, rising to approximately 1,950 metres and providing one of the finest summit viewpoints in the southern Central Province edge zone. The mountain offers a 360-degree panorama that encompasses the Horton Plains plateau to the north, the Samanala range to the west, the Sabaragamuwa lowlands to the south, and the highland escarpment dropping toward the southeastern dry zone to the east. The summit is accessible by a demanding full-day hike through the highland forest and grassland that characterises the mountain’s upper sections. The flora changes dramatically with altitude — from the mid-elevation forest near the base to the highland patana grassland and cloud forest near the summit — providing an ecological journey through the full southern Central Province highland ecosystem.
