Haputale Border Viewpoints (from Badulla Side)

June 14, 2026 claymatics.web@gmail.com Badulla

Overview

The border ridge between the Badulla and Haputale areas of the Uva Province offers a series of viewpoints accessible from the Badulla side that look southwest across the dramatic highland escarpment toward the Haputale Gap and the distant southern lowlands. These viewpoints are less famous than the Lipton’s Seat viewpoints on the Haputale side but provide equally dramatic perspectives on the escarpment landscape — particularly the vertiginous drop from the highland tea estates to the flat lowland plains visible far below. The tea estates along the border ridge are some of the most atmospheric in the Badulla District, and the quality of light on the ridge in the late afternoon creates photography conditions of considerable beauty.
