Kandy is the second largest city in Sri Lanka and was the last capital of the ancient kings’ era. It is home to the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most sacred Buddhist temples in the world. The Esala Perahera festival, held annually in July or August, is one of Asia’s grandest pageants. Kandy Lake, the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, and the surrounding misty hill country make Kandy a complete destination.
