Overview

Manigala Mountain is a prominent summit within the Knuckles Conservation Forest rising to approximately 1,500 metres, accessible via traditional village paths from the western approaches to the range. The mountain sits above the village of Corbet’s Gap and commands magnificent views across the Knuckles ridgeline and the valleys below, with the characteristic knuckle-shaped profile of the range visible in dramatic proximity from the summit. The trail to Manigala passes through a beautiful sequence of vegetation zones — rubber and coconut estates at the base, cardamom gardens on the mid-slopes, and dense montane cloud forest on the upper sections — revealing the extraordinary ecological transition that compressed geography creates in this range. The summit area is a particularly rich birdwatching zone where the forest meets open grassland, and encounters with endemic birds are common in the early morning light. The ascent is demanding but well-rewarded.
