Overview
The Dunhinda Hiking Trail is the 1.5-kilometre forest path that leads from the Dunhinda Falls car park to the main waterfall viewpoint — a trail that is sufficiently beautiful and ecologically rich to be considered a destination in itself rather than merely an access route. The path follows the Dunhinda Oya river through a forest that transitions from the cultivated landscape of the Badulla suburbs into genuine tropical riverside jungle, passing smaller waterfalls, boulder-strewn rapids, and clear pools that invite resting and reflection. The forest along the trail is one of the better birdwatching areas near Badulla, with the riverine habitat supporting kingfishers, wagtails, and highland endemics in the canopy above the path. The trail is well-maintained and clearly marked, making it one of the most pleasant forest walks in the Uva Province.
