Overview
Hapugala Mountain rises to the north of Galle city in the coastal hill country of the Southern Province, providing a series of accessible elevated viewpoints that overlook the Galle coast, the Indian Ocean horizon, and the inland landscape of paddy fields, rubber plantations, and river valleys stretching toward the Central Highlands. The mountain is not a demanding climb — the roads and paths that thread up its slopes reach excellent viewpoints within a short walk or drive — and the perspectives it provides of the Galle coastal landscape are some of the finest available from any elevation in the Southern Province. On clear days, the view extends across the entire sweep of the Galle coast from Unawatuna westward to the fort and beyond, with the blue Indian Ocean providing a constant and vivid backdrop to the green lowland landscape below.
